Gastrointestinal Technician In Illinois Job Details

Hours: Varied start time between 6:00 a.m. & 8:30 a.m.

Basic Function: Assists with pre-procedure preparations and patient positioning.  Performs scrub/technical duties for specific procedures, under the direction of the physician.  Demonstrates basic knowledge and principles of sterile technique and high level disinfection.  Reprocesses equipment and instrumentation following each use, utilizing appropriate techniques and standards.  Performs appropriate care to patients of all ages under the direction of a registered nurse.  Actively contributes to teamwork of the Special Procedures Unit, performing additional duties as needed, including clerical, transport, and other tasks as needed.

Requirements for this position include:

1. High school graduate or equivalent required. 

2. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with 2 years of experience as a GI Tech supporting procedures required or LPN with 1 year of clinical experience required.

3. Must successfully complete GI Technician training within 90 days after starting the position or possess 2 years previous GI Technician experience with successful completion of unit orientation.  

4. Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal directions. 

5. Knowledge and clinical skills to perform general office tasks through training or experience. 

6. Heavy to moderate physical effort.
