Basic Function:

System Director, Infrastructure is responsible for the information technology infrastructure throughout MHS.  This includes, but is not limited to:  local area networks, wide area networks, servers, mid-range nodes, telecommunications, desktop hardware, laptop hardware, hand-held devices, storage area networks, Citrix, VMware, virtual technology, Internet connectivity and other connectivity with external partners.  The incumbent provides direct supervision of the Managers that work in the Infrastructure division and indirect support for the IS management of the critical access hospitals for all things containing infrastructure.  The incumbent will insure a secure, consistent and reliable computing experience for customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The incumbent and staff are responsible for planning, organizing, leading, communicating, and assuring the analysis, evaluation, design, maintenance, and support of complex and highly integrated computer-based infrastructure across three hospitals and all other MHS entities.  The incumbent works closely with the IS Financial Manager to manage project cost, current and multi-year budgeting, vendor invoice validation and payment approvals.  Contract creation and negotiation. Consistently improve the technical operations and reduce the infrastructure cost by staying knowledgeable of new technology available to reduce cost. This position requires the incumbent to work closely with the System Director Applications, and Business owners. The incumbent is responsible to deliver the correct infrastructure to support their initiatives. Develop and implement ITIL, Six Sigma, and best practices in the areas of documentation and on all equipment, locations, and employees in your area of responsibility. Work with the Applications division on all projects during the early stages of any change planned for the infrastructure. The incumbent is required to understand the roll that the infrastructure plays in a 24x7 critical application environment.  Effectively plan and staff to a flexible workload that change during project cycles.  The incumbent and the System Director, Applications will operate as a team, encouraging their direct and indirect reports to deliver effective and consistent customer service to all MHS stakeholders.  As an IS Leadership team member, the incumbent will work to integrate all activities across all MHS entities and model appropriate behavior as exemplified in the MHS Behavioral Standards and Mission, Vision and Values Statement.


 


Requirements for this position include:


1.       Bachelor?s degree in computer science or other related field is required.  Ten years of previous applied technical experience in applications and infrastructure, particularly in an electronic medical record system or major industry experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements. 


2.       Other similar experience in general business, clinical experience and a Master?s degree (either MBA or MS) in Business, Computer Science or related field preferred.


3.       Minimum ten years of experience in Information Technology including project management, advanced support management, infrastructure development, data center design, network design or other similar experience required. 


4.       Demonstrated management skills particularly in the management of people, hardware, software and other IS-related resources including budgetary responsibilities are required.  Previous management or supervisory experience of seven or more years is preferred.


5.       Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to consistently exercise sound judgment and initiative in all circumstances, including very stressful situations and ability to effectively manage competing priorities is essential.


6.       Demonstrated ability to execute projects from start to finish including the development, measurement and reporting of key performance indicators and commitment to continuous quality improvement is essential.


7.       Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management both in and outside of IS is essential.


8.       Demonstrated dedication to strong customer service support and commitment to the achievement of Memorial?s strategic goals is essential.


9.       Demonstrated technical and business written, verbal and presentation skills required.


10.    Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment is essential.  Must be equally as comfortable in leadership roles as in supporting roles of other team members.


11.    Demonstrated ability to achieve results and inspire others to do the same is essential.  Demonstrated history of mentoring and personal accountability for results is essential in this position.


12.    A customer service mentality and focus is essential.


13.    Provides effective mentoring and coaching of staff.   


14.    Ability to build a high performing team and high employee satisfaction is required.


15.    Understanding of PMI, rapid cycle development, and similar disciplines.


16.    Understanding of infrastructures roll in an application driven environment is required.
