Physician Assistant:  Under the direction of a primary care physician(s), provide health maintenance as well as care to patients with common acute and chronic illness while exercising autonomy in medical decision making and providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.  The practice is comprehensive, continuous and coordinated.  The Physician Assistant is responsible for health assessment, early detection of illnesses, health promotion, disease prevention, ordering and interpretation of tests, performance of minor surgical procedures and writing prescriptions.  Collaboration and referral to other health care providers, patient advocacy, teaching, and family counseling are major components of the role.  The patient age range will vary according to site. 


 


Requirements of the position include:


1)      Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or graduate of an accredited physician assistant program required.


2)      Must maintain board certification and CME requirements as set forth by the NCCPA for PA's.


3)      Must possess and maintain licensing as required by Illinois State law for APN or PA. 


4)     Minimum of one year post-school experience as a mid-level provider preferred.


5)      Valid CPR certification required.  ACLS certification preferred.


6)      When requested, obtains/maintains DEA license.


 


Nurse Practitioner:  Under the direction of primary care physician(s), provide health maintenance as well as care to patients with common acute and chronic illness.  The practice is comprehensive, continuous and coordinated.  The Advance Practice Nurse is responsible for health assessment, early detection of illnesses, health promotion, and disease prevention.  Collaboration and referral to other health care providers, patient advocacy, teaching, and family counseling are major components of the role.  The patient age range will vary according to site. 


 


Requirements of the position include:


1)      Certification as a Nurse Practitioner required.


2)      Must possess and maintain licensing as required by Illinois State law for APN. 


3)      Minimum of one year post-school experience as a mid-level provider preferred.


4)      Valid CPR certification required.  ACLS certification preferred.


5)      When requested, obtains/maintains DEA license.


6)      Must possess valid Illinois Class C and must be deemed as an acceptable driver in accordance with the MHS Fleet Safety Policy (five year MVR will be required) if position requires driving Rural Health Partnership Mobile Health Unit.
