Under limited supervision, the Interface Architect/Programmer- Senior develops, codes, tests and debugs new and existing interfaces. Works with technical staff to understand problems with clinical reports and data integration and develops specifications to resolve them. Resolves user complaints and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements. Assists in developing, modifying, and administering interface solutions within the Cerner Millennium suite of applications and manipulating HL7 data to and from downstream systems. Assists in design, maintenance, and support of complex and highly integrated computer-based application software in the Millennium application suite including integration with downstream electronic medical record (EMR) systems in use at the relevant hospital organizations. Develops documentation to effectively communicate and analyze the information flow related to the delivery of quality patient care through various system interfaces. Serves as a project manager, trainer and analyst during design, development, evaluation, selection, implementation and ongoing support of all assigned systems.
Requirements of the position include:
1. Bachelor's degree in computer science or other related field is required. Seven years previous applied programming knowledge in a clinical environment and experience with electronic medical record systems may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
2. Five years programming experience required, preferably in a healthcare setting.
3. Ability to program both standard and proprietary programming languages required. Knowledge of Cloverleaf, HL7, Unix, and TCL programming language preferred.
4. Ability to train and provide guidance to less experienced programmers required.
5. Ability to act as a lead on projects required.
6. High level of understanding of databases, HL7 interfaces, networks, and interface engines required.
7. Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to consistently exercise sound judgment and initiative in very stressful situations required. Ability to effectively manage competing priorities essential.
8. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff both inside and outside of IT essential. Experience dealing with external vendors required.
9. Demonstrated dedication to a positive attitude, strong customer service support and commitment to the achievement of Memorial's strategic goals is required.
10. Demonstrated ability to convey technical knowledge in both written and verbal format. Formal presentation skills required.
11. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment is required.
12. Demonstrated ability to execute projects from start to finish including the development, measurement and reporting of key performance indicators and commitment to continuous quality improvement.
13. Ability to work in fast paced/stressful situations and remain composed.
14. Availability for evening and weekend 'on-call' as required for 24 hour, 7 day a week support of systems.
