Basic Function:


Under limited supervision, works on the design, development, implementation and support of web-based applications for clinical information presentation and decision support from within a Windows client/Citrix based clinical information system, Cerner Millennium, using the Cerner MPage development platform.  Works within Cerner?s Discern Visual Developer tool to query, transform and deliver clinical data to an output format of client-side HTML.  The position will use Cerner Command Language (CCL) which is a vendor specific procedural programming language that also has a structured query language similar to Oracle SQL.  From within the Cerner developer tool, the position will code and debug CCL programs to create highly interactive HTML pages through the use of Web 2.0 technologies that include client-side programming and the use of style sheets.  Works with technical staff to understand problems with clinical information presentation, decision support, and integration and develops specifications to resolve them.  Resolves user complaints and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements.  Responsible for product support and maintenance of  developed solutions. Designs and implements data presentation strategy methods and codes and documents scripts and stored procedures.  Develops appropriate programs and systems documentation.


 


Requirements for this position include:


1.         Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field with coursework in programming is required.  College course work in software engineering, database systems is highly desirable, preferably in a healthcare setting.


2.         Five years experience in application development or software engineering is required.  Relevant experience with the development of highly interactive web-based applications is preferred.


3.         Experience with client-side web development that included the use of HTML, JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets is required.  Additional experience with AJAX, XML, XLST and XHTML is highly desirable.  Experience with jQuery is a plus.


4.         Knowledge of advanced programming techniques including arrays and modular program design is required. 


5.         Experience with querying enterprise databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase or DB2 is required. 


6.         Experience with application data and logic design including requirements development, usability testing, development, and support and knowledge of user interface design including web page usability development is highly desirable.


7.         Knowledge of Cerner CCL (Cerner Command Language) and experience with creating GenViews, MPages, or Custom CCL development within the Cerner Product line is desirable, but not required.  In lieu of Cerner CCL experience, knowledge and experience with Oracle SQL and PL/SQL is desirable, but not required.


8.         Ability to program both standard and proprietary programming languages required.


9.         Ability to train and provide guidance to less experienced programmers required.


10.       Ability to act as a lead on projects required.


11.       Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to consistently exercise sound judgment and initiative in very stressful situations required.  Ability to effectively manage competing priorities essential.


12.       Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff both inside and outside of IT essential.  Experience dealing with external vendors required.


13.       Demonstrated dedication to a positive attitude, strong customer service support and commitment to the achievement of Memorial?s strategic goals is required.


14.       Demonstrated ability to convey technical knowledge in both written and verbal format. Formal presentation skills required.


15.       Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment is required.


16.       Demonstrated ability to execute projects from start to finish including the development, measurement and reporting of key performance indicators and commitment to continuous quality improvement.


17.       Ability to work in fast paced/stressful situations and remain composed.
