Basic Function:


The Physician Coding Compliance Coordinator (PCCC) is responsible for monitoring patient billing processes including but not limited to documentation and ICD-9-CM and CPT code accuracy which supports billing and reimbursement activities throughout MHS Physician Practices.  The PCCC will complete billing reviews prior to claim submission to help ensure accuracy and compliance with Health System policies, third party payer contracts and government regulations. The PCCC communicates the opportunities for documentation improvement to physicians, staff, and management and provides education based on issues identified.  The PCCC also provides annual education of coding changes to coders, physicians, mid level providers and staff as needed. 


 


Requirements for this position include:



  1. Bachelor?s Degree in Health Information Management or related area required.

  2. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P) required. 

  3. Five (5) to eight (8) years of recent work experience in a physician office setting, an acute hospital setting, or consulting company performing medical records coding or medical records auditing required.

  4. Advanced knowledge of medical coding systems, procedures, and documentation requirements in hospitals and physician offices required.

  5. Knowledge of auditing concepts and principals.

  6. Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid regulations required.

  7. Working knowledge of physician E/M coding, hospital inpatient and outpatient coding, and provider-based clinic coding required.

  8. Coding/audit experience with hospital inpatient services, hospital outpatient services, and physician offices required.

  9. Experience in training/teaching all staff levels, including physicians, required.

  10. Strong conceptual, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills required.

  11. Computer experience in Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and presentation skills required.

  12. Must possess a high degree of organizational skills including effective time management skills to set/reset priorities accordingly.
