Basic Function:


The staff chaplain is a full member of the healthcare team who provides for the pastoral needs of patients, families and staff.  Specifically, the staff chaplain, through professional training and certification, assists patients to understand more fully life?s events as they relate to their spiritual and emotional well-being.  From the patient?s life experience, the staff chaplain may offer prayer or reflection.  The staff chaplain practices and promotes the mission, vision and values of Taylorville Memorial Hospital and encourages employees in their living of the mission, vision and values.


 


QUALIFICATIONS


 


A.  Education and Training



  1. A bachelor?s degree in pastoral ministry, theology or a related field.

  2. Has at least one unit of CPE and is working towards becoming certified or professionally recognized by an appropriate certifying organization (National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Association of Professional Chaplains, Association of Clinical Pastoral Education or the American Association of Pastoral Counselors). 

  3. One year of pastoral experience

  4. Ability to lead and coordinate prayer.


 


B.  Personal Requirements



  1. Solid standing within his or her denomination, as evidenced by ecclesiastical endorsement.

  2. Good physical and emotional health

  3. Ability and stamina to minister to patients with varying physical and mental dysfunctions.

  4. Flexibility in work hours

  5. Ability and desire to work with clergy of varying faith backgrounds.

  6. Experience in working as part of a team, good communication skills.
