Basic Function: 


1.     Uses standardized definitions for the identification and classification of events, indicators, or outcomes.


2.     Incorporates into practice effective activities that are specific to the practice setting and the population served.


3.     Provides expert knowledge and guidance in infection prevention and control for healthcare staff, patients, families, and general public.


4.     Serves as an educator and participates in educational programs for infection prevention and control.


5.     Collaborates with employee health in development of policies related to the risk of disease transmission. Assists with the immunization program.


 


Specifications: Knowledge, Training, Work Experiences & Physical Effort:


1.     A registered nurse:  Baccalaureate degree preferred.


2.     Two years experience in acute care hospital. Experienced health care professional.


3.     Ability to work cooperatively with others.


4.     Willing to engage in individual study.


5.     Evidence of good communication skills.


6.     Becomes certified in infection prevention and control when eligible through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology. Prefer certification after two years within department.  Will maintain certification once obtained.


7.     Data collection experience desirable, QA/UR, epidemiological studies.
