Systems engineer with strong Avaya telecommunications system and network experience, as well as some Windows operating system skills. Monitor and respond to hardware and software problems utilizing hardware and software testing tools and techniques. Performs standard Avaya PBX Administration procedures including but not limited to Avaya Modular messaging, VAL manager, Avaya Site manager, VOIP, media gateways, structure design and management of telecommunications systems and telecommunication circuits. Experienced in telecommunication and network system security and system performance enhancements in a large Avaya enterprise telecommunication environment. Responsible for backups and restores, test and develop of disaster recovery procedures and documentation. Works with Telecommunications Analyst, Telecommunication Technicians and Enterprise Network support teams to provide support for production and non-production systems. Interfaces with application development and vendor support service groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance. Installs server hardware, software and provides data communications support.
Requirements for this position include:
1. Either Bachelors degree in computer science or related field or demonstrated successful completion of four to six years relevant industry training and certification or expertise in Avaya Telecommunication system administration is required. Completion of Bachelors degree is strongly encouraged within 5 years of employment in order to lead to further advancement within the department.
2. Previous applied knowledge particularly in specific Avaya hardware and software systems such as Avaya G700, media gateways, Avaya Modular Messaging, Partners systems, LAN/WAN networks, VOIP, Microsoft Windows Server / Desktop OS and network protocols is required.
3. Four or more years of experience in installation and administration is required including responsibility for system administration, hardware and software installation activities including project management and completion of implementation efforts from beginning to end. Requires experience in telecommunication and network circuit structure design and management.
4. Experienced in standard network protocols TCP/IP, DHCP, telnet, FTP, TFTP, SSH, PPP and SNMP.
5. Experienced with Avaya enterprise backup/restore of both OS and data.
6. Experienced in test and development of disaster recovery procedures and documentation
7. Broad experience in IT is necessary including proficiency with personal computer systems and general knowledge of hardware is required. Basic understanding of programming and its application is also necessary.
8. Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to consistently exercise sound judgment and initiative in all circumstances, including very stressful situations. Must also be able to effectively manage competing priorities.
9. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff both in and outside of IT essential as well as experience in dealing with and managing proper escalation of critical service calls with vendor support to ensure timely and appropriate resolution to system issues.
10. Demonstrated dedication to a positive attitude and strong customer service support
11. Demonstrated technical and business written and verbal skills required. Proficiency in creating appropriate system documentation is essential.
12. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment is essential.
13. Demonstrated ability to execute projects from start to finish including the development, measurement and reporting of key performance indicators and commitment to continuous quality improvement required.
14. Demonstrated ability to achieve results and inspire others to do the same is essential. Personal accountability for results is essential to success in this position as well as dedication to continue learning and investigation of relevant technology improvements is imperative.
