Basic Function:
The Director of Patient Safety will be responsible for designing, coordinating and supporting all activities related to building a culture of safety at MHS, and the ongoing improvement of patient safety. The Director of Patient Safety will assist department leaders in identifying and managing improvement opportunities across MHS related to National Patient Safety Goals and all regulatory and compliance standards related to patient safety. This position will assist department leaders in improving work processes related to patient safety by decreasing variation, and cycle times. The primary role of the Director of Patient Safety is to serve as an internal consultant to department and facility leadership in promoting a culture of safety, and implementing evidence based plans that improve clinical performance and patient safety.
Specifications: Knowledge, Training, Work Experience & Physical Effort
1. Master's degree in business or other health related field required or Registered Nurse with a Masters degree in nursing, business, or other health-related field required.
2. Seven (7) years of management experience required with general knowledge of budgetary, project management, and program development experience.
3. Knowledge of accreditation, regulatory, and risk management requirements.
4. Excellent communication, facilitation, and change management skills.
5. Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and implement process changes leading to enhanced patient safety.
6. Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies preferred. Expected to become Lean or Green belt certified within 12 months of hire.
7. Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple/detail-oriented tasks. Able to act as an internal consultant to department leaders.
8. Reports directly to the V.P. of Quality and Operations Improvement and works closely with Directors of Operations Improvement, Infection Control, and Environment of Care on improvement initiatives.
9. High level of computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products and spreadsheet software (i.e. Excel, Access, PowerPoint), or will become proficient within 6 months of hire.
